Editorial Roles and Responsibilities
Editor-in-Chief (EIC)
Primary Role:
Provides strategic, academic, and ethical leadership for the journal to maintain its scholarly integrity and global reputation.
Responsibilities:
· Set the editorial vision, mission, and thematic direction of JSS-AHD.
· Supervise the peer-review and publication process to ensure fairness and quality.
· Make final decisions on manuscript acceptance, revision, or rejection.
· Ensure compliance with COPE and international publishing ethics.
· Lead editorial board meetings and coordinate with the publisher on policies and growth strategies.
· Represent the journal in academic, professional, and indexing networks (e.g., DOAJ, CrossRef, Google Scholar).
· Oversee appointment of Associate Editors and Reviewers.
· Supervise website content updates, announcements, and special issues.
Associate Editors
Primary Role:
Support the Editor-in-Chief in managing submissions, coordinating reviews, and maintaining quality across subject areas.
Responsibilities:
· Handle manuscripts assigned by the Editor-in-Chief based on subject expertise.
· Select qualified peer reviewers and monitor review progress.
· Provide editorial recommendations (accept, revise, reject) based on reviewers’ feedback.
· Ensure manuscripts adhere to journal scope, style, and ethics.
· Assist in organizing special issues or thematic sections.
· Promote the journal through academic networks and conferences.
· Report any ethical or conflict-of-interest concerns to the Editor-in-Chief.
Managing Editor / Editorial Manager
Primary Role:
Oversee the administrative and operational workflow of the journal to ensure efficient communication and timely publication.
Responsibilities:
· Coordinate submission tracking and communication with authors and reviewers.
· Maintain the journal’s manuscript management system or submission email.
· Manage editorial correspondence, scheduling, and follow-ups.
· Supervise copyediting, proofreading, and layout before publication.
· Liaise with the publisher for DOI registration, indexing, and website updates.
· Prepare reports on submission trends, acceptance rates, and review performance.
Section Editors / Subject Editors
Primary Role:
Oversee submissions within a specific subject area (e.g., Visual Arts, Education, Cultural Studies, Human Development).
Responsibilities:
· Evaluate whether manuscripts fit within their assigned subject scope.
· Recommend suitable reviewers and provide subject-level evaluation.
· Contribute to topic-specific calls for papers or special issues.
· Ensure consistency in scholarly tone, academic rigor, and citation style.
Reviewers / Peer Reviewers
Primary Role:
Provide objective, scholarly, and constructive evaluations of submitted manuscripts.
Responsibilities:
· Conduct double-blind peer review with professionalism and confidentiality.
· Evaluate manuscripts based on originality, clarity, methodology, and contribution.
· Submit detailed review reports and recommendations within the given timeline (usually 2–3 weeks).
· Identify ethical issues (e.g., plagiarism, data manipulation) if detected.
· Suggest improvements to enhance readability and research quality.
· Maintain confidentiality and avoid conflicts of interest.
Copy Editor / Proofreader
Primary Role:
Ensure that accepted manuscripts meet the journal’s technical, grammatical, and formatting standards.
Responsibilities:
· Correct language, punctuation, and syntax errors.
· Apply APA 7th edition citation and reference consistency.
· Check formatting (headings, tables, figures, references).
· Collaborate with authors on final corrections before publication.
Web and Production Team
Primary Role:
Support the technical and digital dissemination of published content.
Responsibilities:
· Maintain the journal website and ensure articles are properly formatted and indexed.
· Assign DOI numbers and ensure metadata accuracy.
· Manage online publication scheduling and issue archiving.
· Ensure website accessibility, design, and user experience meet global standards.
Advisory Board
Primary Role:
Provide academic, ethical, and strategic guidance for the long-term growth and impact of the journal.
Responsibilities:
· Advise on editorial policies, scope, and quality improvement.
· Support international collaboration and visibility.
· Recommend qualified reviewers, editors, or contributors.
· Participate in annual evaluation and development meetings.
