Abstract

Sally Rooney's Normal People explores the complexities of love, relationships, and identity through the lives of Marianne and Connell. Set in post-recession Ireland, the novel highlights themes of isolation, communication struggles, and class differences. Marianne and Connell’s bond is marked by moments of closeness and distance, reflecting the challenges of modern relationships and the search for meaning. Rooney’s simple and relatable writing style portrays love as both comforting and painful, showing the fragility of human connection. The novel offers a realistic exploration of the struggles and uncertainties that shape personal relationships in today's world.
