Abstract

Background:
Digital technologies have increasingly transformed educational practices, influencing teaching methods, learner engagement, language acquisition, and educational experiences. Digital pedagogy provides opportunities to support interactive, collaborative, and learner-centered approaches across different educational contexts.

Aim:
This narrative review examines the role of digital pedagogy in contemporary education, with particular attention to digital language learning, learner engagement, psychological factors, and the educational environment.

Methodology:
A structured literature search was conducted across Scopus, Web of Science and Google Scholar. Relevant peer-reviewed studies and theoretical contributions published between 2009 and 2026 were considered. The literature was examined thematically according to the role of digital technologies in teaching and learning.

Main Findings:

The reviewed literature indicates that digital tools, including digital storytelling, blog writing, and technology-supported language learning, can support language development, vocabulary acquisition, writing skills, motivation, and learner engagement. Digital approaches may also contribute to reducing foreign language anxiety when implemented within supportive learning environments. However, challenges related to technological access, digital literacy, assessment practices, and the preparation of educators remain important considerations.

Conclusion:
Digital pedagogy represents an important component of contemporary education. Its effectiveness depends not only on the availability of technological tools but also on appropriate pedagogical design, teacher preparation, learner needs, and supportive educational environments. Further research should examine the long-term educational effects of digital interventions across diverse educational settings.
